Lake Lucerne is not only beautiful but also linked to the history of Switzerland. It is the site of the Rüttli meadow, where the locals took their oath, which gave birth to the Swiss Confederation and its resistance to the Habsburg Empire.

The three beautiful peaks near Lake Lucerne are Pilatus, where legend has it that Pontius Pilate was buried, Bürgenstock and Rigi. Mount Rigi so fascinated the artist Turner that he painted it in different seasons. At sunset the peak turns bright red.

Mount Pilatus can be reached by the world's steepest railway or by cable car.
