The Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool is a pioneering triumph of industrial warehouse architecture.

The Royal Albert Dock is a pillared five-storey red-brick warehouse named after Queen Victoria's husband used for Far Eastern silk, tea and tobacco. The designer of the dock is Jess Hartley. Royal Albert Dock is part of a system of connecting canals thanks to which ships passed from dock to dock. Later, the "Albert" dock also became a base for the "Cunard" and "White Star" liners. The Royal Albert Dock is closed in 1972 as the port of Liverpool went into decline. It was restored in the 1990s. Today, Albert Dock is filled with offices, elegant boutiques and restaurants.
