Strasbourg, France
Strasbourg (Strasbourg ) is a city in eastern France, near the German border. It is the seat of some of the institutions of the European Union: the Council of Europe, the Eurocorps, the European Parliament and the European Ombudsman. Strasbourg is the second largest port on the Rhine after Duisburg in Germany. In Strasbourg one should visit the island of the Grand Isle formed by the canals of the Rhine. Interesting to see there are the houses with their architecture. The whole island is a UNESCO world heritage site. On the island there is also the Notre Dame Cathedral, which is in Gothic style and is the highest French church and fourth in this indicator in the world.
There are many museums and parks to visit in Strasbourg: the Musée de l'Oeuvre with its collection of medieval religious art; the Palais Rohan - comprising three museums - fine arts, applied arts and archaeology; the 17th century Bent Barage Vauban; the Maison Camersel - one of the best preserved medieval houses in the Holy Roman Empire; the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
It is interesting to note that the Marseillaise was written in Strasbourg in 1792.
