Nîmes is a town in southern France, the centre of the department of Gard. Nîmes is picturesquely situated at the foot of the small mountain of Garrigue.

In the thick books of history it is recorded that Nîmes was founded by the Romans and this event dates from 120 BC. Other important events in the development of the city over the years are 1185 when Nîmes became part of the County of Toulouse, and 1229 when the lands of Nîmes officially became part of the French Kingdom.

Nîmes cannot complain in terms of its tourism. This is greatly helped by the numerous remains of Roman civilization, such as the elliptical amphitheater of the 1st-2nd centuries, etc. Square House, the temple of the goddess Diana, or the Great Tower. The elliptical amphitheater is the best preserved Roman arena in France. Today it is also used for bullfights and concerts. The Square House is a small Roman temple that is one of the best-preserved Roman temples in the world, and was built around 19 BC. Another interesting landmark in Nîmes is its cathedral, which is characterized by its mixed architecture - part Roman, part Gothic. A modern landmark that deserves attention is the art museum.
