The Verdon Gorge, France is located in northern Provence. It is the second largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon in the USA. The gorge was discovered by the caver Martel.

The Verdon Gorge is 20 km long, but the road on the slopes has many turns, so the distance becomes more than 130 km. From the Malin upland, the view is most beautiful and complete. The steep and sheer cliffs in the gorge appeal to rock climbers. There are also hiking trails for hiking enthusiasts.

Its proximity to the French Riviera, the incomparable landscapes and the cooler climate in summer, makes it frequented by many tourists. The nearest town is Castellane. The gorge can be reached by road from Avignon or Nice. The Verdon Gorge is a wonder of nature. The layered limestone rocks have been subjected to the effects of rains, winds, erosion, etc. and have taken on different colours and shapes over time. The depth of the gorge is about 750 m, the width at the top is about 6 m and at the bottom where the river flows somewhere is only 1 m. The most attractive attractions of the gorge are the steep cliffs, which are a favourite place of rock climbers. There are more than 1500 climbing routes here, but due to the complex, steep topography, they are not for beginners. There are several interesting hiking trails through the gorge that are accessible to a larger number of people who decide to enjoy the scenic views. The Imbute, Bastidon and Martel trails allow one to spend time in this beautiful scenery that leaves unforgettable memories in the mind.

At the western end of the gorge is the village of Mustier St Marie, famous for its pottery, the best of which is on display in the Museum of Earthenware. To the south, it offers a magnificent view of the man-made Lac de San Croix. The bridge over the Arteubi River is a must-see in the Verdon Gorge. And the so-called "balconies of Mescla" are sheer cliffs descending to the foaming waters of the river.

The Verdon Gorge is a place where one feels small compared to the grandeur and beauty of what nature has created.
