Termessos was impregnable, located high in the mountains behind Antalya. The city retained its independence for a long time and its heyday was in the second century. A major earthquake in 567 leveled the city to the ground and it never recovered.

The steep path that leads up to the rocky remains of the city walls shows why Alexander refused to attack. From this amazing height you can see the Pamphylia plain and the mountain Solimus. The huge necropolis is the other wonder of Termesos. It has 1000 tombs scattered on the rocky hill.
