Rijeka is one of the main ports in Croatia. The first written information about the city appears at the beginning of the 13th century, for two settlements located on the river Rijeka. In the 18th century another settlement appeared and in 1947 they were united in today's town.
Today Rijeka is a commercial and industrial center with a great cultural and historical heritage. Interesting to see are: the St. Jerome's Church - built from 1315 to 1408 in Gothic architecture, the church of St. Vitus - patron saint of the city, the governor's palace and the palace "Commune".
Above Rijeka is the fortress "Tarsat" with the church "Mother of God", as well as a village hiding many finds from all eras.
