Crikvenica, Croatia
24 km from Bakar, at the foot of the mountain Velika Kapela, opposite the island of Krk is Crikvenica. In the beginning, the Roman village of Ad Turres appeared here. Today it ranks among the most famous resorts in Croatia. The city originated around a Franciscan castle and monastery and this is from where came the name of the city - "Crikva", which means church.
The castle can be seen on the river Dubracina, built by the Franciscans who in 1412 moved here and made donations for the construction of the castle and the monastery. Later, the construction of the castle continued by the Order of St. Paul, who settled there until 1786. Then the castle was rebuilt into a sanatorium for senior military, and today it houses the Kastel Hotel.
