Domus Aurea or the Golden House is a prime example of the extremes of Imperial Rome. It is a complex wich is built by the Emperor Nero. A fire in 64 destroyed much of the city, and Nero took advantage of this to build a palace so large that his contemporaries complained that his house was larger than the rest of the city. Today the palace is preserved as a treasure of ancient architecture, painting and sculpture.
