The Vienna Volksoper is one of the jewels of northern Alsergrunf. Just a few minutes' walk west of the Lichtenstein Museum, right on the border between Alsergrund and the neighbouring district of Vering, stands out the building of Vienna's most popular cultural institution, the Vienna Volksoper.

The Vienna Volksoper was founded in 1903 and quickly gained popularity among the city's inhabitants. The Vienna Volksoper emerged as an alternative to the Staatsoper and won over its visitors with its relaxed atmosphere, its accessibility and its never-ending willingness to experiment with new ideas.

Typical of this type of cultural institution, the Vienna Volksoper 's repertoire is peppered with operas, operettas and classic musicals, with entertainment and a good time being the main focus. It's important to say that most of the productions presented on stage have English subtitles, but even when they're missing it's no great loss. And while the Vienna Volksoper sells fewer standing-room tickets than the Stätsoper, the prices for seats here are sensibly lower than those at the more famous opera house.
