Silba Island, Croatia
The island of Silba is located in the upper part of the Zadar archipelago, in the northern part of Dalmatia, near the islands of Oliba and Losin. Silba Island is one of the small Mediterranean islands. It has a mostly flat relief and thanks to this a network of hiking trails through wooded valleys lead to the shores, where one can immerse oneself in the solitude of the beautiful secluded coves. Dobre Verde and Nozdre stand out among them, as well as Pernastica - one of the ten best sandy bays in Croatia.
Cars are not used on the island of Silba. There is only one village on the island, charmingly perched on the beautiful coast of Sotorice. However, there are six churches that are proof of the strong religiosity of the island. One of them is the church "St. Mark" from the XVII century and its cemetery. This is not accidental, as looking back in time we see that in 1901 the island of Silba became the property of the Church.
Over the centuries, Silba has developed as a strong center of trade, shipping and shipbuilding. Earning the nickname "the gate of Dalmatia", in the XIII century the island of Silba reached its apogee. It is recorded in the annals that he owned a fleet of about 100 ships. The Venetians laid a hand on the island of Silba and turned it into a private possession of their aristocratic family. The desired freedom for the island of Silba came on March 19, 1852 and to this day it is the date of the biggest holiday on the island. The island of Silba is an extremely nice Croatian island. Sunny days, cooled by a light western breeze, attract those who want to relax and unwind on the beach, sailing enthusiasts and even fishing enthusiasts.
