Ilovik Island, Croatia
The southernmost inhabited island of the Losinj archipelago is known as the "island of flowers". This is the island of Ilovik - an island mass covered with low hills, natural wells and Mediterranean shrubs. The greenery of the island of Ilovik is dotted with the unadulterated charm of the vineyards, rose groves, oleanders and eucalyptus trees.
Ilovik Island is a small island with an area of only 5.8 sq.km. Maybe this is his charm - small but beautiful and neat. Its town with the same name, Ilovik, has two shops, a post office and a bar. The story goes that it originated in the 18th century after an agreement between the fishermen from the island of Losinj and the church to buy the island. Today this place captivates with its unique atmosphere and appearance. Archaeological monuments on the island of Ilovik are not missing. Such is for example Siladriga - an archaeological site with the remains of a medieval church. The Straza Hill is ready to show everyone the traces of the prehistoric and Byzantine culture.
It would not be fair not to talk about the uninhabited island of St. Petras. Apart from being conquered by olive trees, a place has been found on its territory to preserve the ruins of the Venetian castle and the Benedictine monastery and cemetery from the 11th century. Today, St. Petras is a popular stop for yachts that cross the Adriatic. As a finale for the island of Ilovik can be said to be a place where one can dive into the privacy of one of the semi-sloping beaches, immerse yourself in the charm of pristine nature, swim and eat freshly caught fish prepared on the coast.
