Venice Glass Museum, Italy
From the 10th century, Venice became the center of glass production. Many new techniques have been developed and the city has become a center of profitable export trade in tableware, mirrors and other luxury items. The Venetian glass was highly valued between the tenth and fourteenth centuries because the Venetians managed to keep the corona process a secret. Gradually, some Venetian glassmakers moved to other parts of Europe and glassmaking spread with them.
As a major center of glass art in 1861 the Venice Glass Museum was founded. Today, the Venice Glass Museum is located in Palazzo Giustinian - one of the great palaces in the Lagoon of Venice. The museum is divided into 3 separate sections: the first exhibits an archeological collection, including valuable objects of glass art from Egyptian and Dalmatian glass; the second section contains objects made between the 18th and 19th centuries; in the third section of the museum are exhibited products of modern and industrial glass production.
In the Venice Glass Museum you can see tools and materials of glass production, as well as to trace the stages in which the glass craft and industry have passed over the centuries.
