The Sigmund Freud House in Vienna is a museum dedicated to Freud. This typical town house from the late 19th century, after its conversion into a museum in 1971, is considered worldwide as a kind of historical site - 65,000 visitors come here every year. It is housed in his apartment and covers his life and the history of psychoanalysis.

The rooms of his home, where he spent 47 years, have now been turned into a documentary center on his life and work. The influence of psychoanalysis on art and society are depicted through a special exhibition and a modern art collection. The museum is located in the ninth district of Alsergrund.

Sigmund Freud moved into this apartment in 1891. In 1938 Freud was forced to leave Austria after the Anschluss with Germany and went to London.

The house-museum of Sigmund Freud also houses the largest psychoanalytic library in Europe with 35,000 volumes and a research institute of the Sigmund Freud Foundation.

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the father of psychoanalysis, an exhibition entitled "The Couch: Thinking in the Reclining Position" is on view at the museum from 5 May to 5 November. In fact, Vienna is declaring 2006 the Year of Freud, with numerous scientific, cultural and media events from January to December.
