Hans Christian Andersen Experience, Copenhagen

The great Hans Christian Andersen was born in a beautiful town in Denmark - Odense. Understandably, it is in this city that there cannot be a museum of the famous writer. Andersen was born in Odense in 1805. His birthplace is now a museum that attracts many tourists every year.
The Hans Christian Andersen Experience is dedicated to his works. Exhibition recalls all the most famous fairy tales such as The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen and others. The small room where the artist spent his youth while living in Copenhagen tells visitors, connoisseurs and admirers of his work about the life of this notorious Danish storyteller. In the Hans Christian Andersen Experience, the humble environment in which Hans Christian Andersen lived is recreated. The furniture of the room consists of a small bed, a wardrobe, a stove, a desk and two chairs.
During the time that Andersen lived in this house, he did not write anything, but still his works are placed on the shelves of the interior of the Hans Christian Andersen Experience. A unique experience for museum visitors is the opportunity to sit in his chair and enjoy his work.
Andersen's birthday is celebrated every year on April 2. The celebration starts at the beginning of April and all the museums and tourist offices are ready to welcome and answer the questions of the many additional guests who will come to Hans Christian Andersen's town. The idea of celebrating Andersen and the opportunity for a unique worldwide promotion has existed since 1998.
Even the local monastery, which once housed unmarried girls from aristocratic circles, is included in the celebrations. The seat of the "Hans Christian Andersen, 2005" fund is located there. The chairman of the fund, Lars Seeberg, hopes that the Andersen celebrations will create new traditions for the city - for example, an annual Christmas Andersen bazaar around the poet's house-museum, dramatizations and literary readings at the city's Ethnographic Museum. Andersen's celebration of ingenuity and fantasy is almost as great as in his fairy tales and stories.
