Gulf of California islands, Mexico
The Gulf of California islands are a group of islands with diverse scenery. They extend from the Colorado River Delta in the north to the tip of the Lower California Peninsula in the south. There are about 240 in number and the combination of climate, terrain, flora and fauna make them: incredibly peaceful and beautiful.
Tiburon Island is the largest of the group of islands. The terrain is mountainous and desolate, but there are low bushes and rare plants and animals. There are many shells along the shores. The Seri Indians live here. Interesting is their settlement where the 1000 surviving Seri continue to live as they did in the distant past.
The island of Espiritu Santo, opposite La Paz, is the best place in the world to see whales up close.
For some time now, the Gulf of California Islands have been designated a world-class nature reserve.
