Lake Balaton in Hungary is the largest in Central Europe and is located 80 km from Budapest. The lake's beautiful shoreline is suitable for a "seaside resort". In the surroundings of Lake Balaton there are pleasant places for walking, cycling and wild bird watching. Along the northern shore of Lake Balaton is the national park covering the Balaton Heights, formed by volcanic activity. On the Tihany peninsula, which has also been declared a nature reserve, is a beautiful Benedictine monastery with a church with two twin towers, a lake and geysers. Balatonfüred is worth a visit for its famous hot springs.
