Biebrza Marshes (Biebrza National Park), Poland

The Biebrza Marshes or Biebrza National Park in Podlaskie, northern Poland, are considered one of Europe's most intact and ecologically important peat bogs. The total area of the Biebrza Marshes is nearly 600 square kilometres, making it the largest national park in Poland. The Biebrza Marshes are home to many breeding birds - over 180 species, some of which are threatened with extinction. The reserve is also home to rare plants and 48 species of mammals - deer, wolves, beavers, otters, foxes, golden eagles and wild boars.
Immediately below the surface of the ground here are the remains of a variety of crops. Even a fortress of the Russian king from the IX century is preserved near Osovets.
