Casablanca, Morocco
The city of Casablanca is located in the western part of Morocco, on the Atlantic coast. It is the largest city in Morocco, numbering about 3.5 million people with the agglomeration.
The area in which the city of Casablanca is located has been inhabited since the 7th century by Berber tribes. The city they built was called Anfa. After many invasions over the centuries, the Portuguese rebuilt the city in 1515 and called it Casa Branca. After the great earthquake of 1755, when most of the buildings were destroyed, the Portuguese left it. The city of Casablanca was rebuilt by Sultan Sidi Mohammed III (1756-1790).
In 1943 the meeting between Roosevelt and Churchill took place in Casablanca. It decided to open a Second Front in Europe and understood the global goal of the Allies-the unconditional surrender of Germany, Italy, and Japan.
The interesting location of the city and its scenery inspired the film Casablanca (1942). The romantic story of the two lovers Rick and Elsa, played by actors Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, inspires many lovers now to meet on the oceanfront in Casablanca to pledge their allegiance. Many songs are also dedicated to this romantic city.
Casablanca's biggest landmark is the Hassan II Mosque. It was built in 1986 by the King of Morocco in honor of his father Hassanll. 28,000 worshippers gather inside. Its minaret is 210 m high.It is distinguished by its spectacular posture and its astonishing ornaments. The mosque is erected on the shore of the ocean and the extraordinary view that is revealed adds to the fascination of the temple. The other landmark in Casablanca is the lighthouse, built in 1905, which is 45 meters high. The city is one of the most modern in Morocco.
