Prešov is a city in Eastern Slovakia, designated as the administrative center of the Prešov region. Passing through different principalities, the city has several historical names – Eperieş or Preschau in German, Eperieş in Hungarian, Fragopolis in Latin, Prezhov in Polish, Perieshish in Romanian, Pryashyv in Ruthenian and Pryashiv in Ukrainian.
The urban landscape of Prešov is an interesting remake of several main styles - Baroque, Rococo and Gothic. The historic center of the main street is surrounded by churches and other buildings built in these styles. Prešov, as well as the region, are competing for the European Capital of Culture for 2013.
Presov is a city where three cultures can be distinguished - Slavic, Hungarian and German. Historically, today's Presov was mentioned for the first time in 1247. Before World War II, there was a large Jewish community in Presov.
The main tourist attractions of Prešov are the luxurious Klobushitsky palaces and the St. Nicholas Cathedral. Also of interest is the building of the Evangelical College, which was the first university in the city. The walk would be varied with a walk through the Jewish Quarter, as well as a visit to religious temples such as the Orthodox Church "Alexander Nevsky" with a very beautiful and massive iconostasis, the Franciscan Church "St. Joseph", the Greek Catholic Church. Also magnificent are the Fountain of Neptune, the Gothic Carafa Prison, the Bozaca Bank buildings and the Town Hall.
Apart from Proshov, there are sights in the region. Such is, for example, Sarris Castle, located 6 km from the city, located on a hill overlooking the historic town of Sarris. It houses one of the oldest breweries in the area. Nearby is the pleasant Semiata Park.
