Kotor is a town in Montenegro and is located at the extreme end of the Bay of Kotor. The old town of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city was part of the Roman Empire, and after the collapse became part of the Eastern Empire. For a short time the city of Kotor was within the borders of the Bulgarian state from 998 until 1018, when it was captured by Samuel. From 1420 to 1797 Kotor was ruled by Venice, which is evident from its architecture.
