Mecca is a holy city located in Saudi Arabia. It has about 1.3 million people. It is the geographical and spiritual center of Muslims. It is the duty of the followers of this religion to visit this place at least once in their life. The pilgrimage is called "Hajj" and takes place every year in the Muslim month of Ju Hijja at the Kaaba - the holiest place on earth for them.
The largest mosque in the world, "Masjid al-Haram", was built in the 7th century, but then it was repeatedly expanded and annexed. Now it gathers about 820 thousand worshippers. It houses the Kaaba, a huge block of granite believed to have been built by Ibrahim or Abraham. Here is also the sacred Black Stone, which is supposed to have fallen from heaven when Adam and Eve appeared.
During the Hajj, the population of the city reaches over 4 million people. The city of Mecca must be visited only by Muslims.
