The Bandiagara Escarpment are in an area that was declared a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1989. This natural phenomenon is located in the south of Mali. The majestic cliffs descend for a distance of about 150 km with a height of 100 meters at the southern end to 500 meters at the northern end.

The amount of rainfall here is high, during the period June-September, but the water disappears into the cracks of the earth's surface. It reappears as springs at the foot of the steep slopes. This helps the Dogon people who live here to grow crops. A wide range of vegetation, unknown in the surrounding lands, grows here. There are also a variety of animals such as rose-ringed parrots, yellow-billed storks, rock songbirds, etc. Of interest are the rock paintings on the cliffs. The best time to visit is in November-December.
