The Tian Shan is a scenic mountain range stretching for 2,400 kilometers and straddling the border between Northwest China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The highest peak is Pobeda (7439 m) and rises in Kyrgyzstan. On the territory of Kazakhstan, the highest peak is Kan Tengri (7010 m) or the Lord of the Sky. It is a popular climbing site for well-prepared mountaineers. The 60 km long Inilchen glacier is also located here. In the middle of it is the large lake Merzbacher. There are several other beautiful lakes, such as Marakol, which can be compared to Lake Baikal, and also the three Kolsaai lakes, called the pearls of Northern Tian Shan. It is best to visit in the summer, taking the road from Almaty.
