La Amistad International Park, Costa Rica

La Amistad International Park is part of a joint Central American project to create a reserve comprising forest areas in Costa Rica and Panama. The park has ancient tropical rainforests growing on the ancient granite Cordillera de Talamanea, which is the dividing line between the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Here, where the connection between North and South America is made, a great variety of animal and plant species can be observed. Of the trees, a virgin oak forest is of interest, with seven species of oaks. Of the animals, the last surviving species of Central American wild cats such as ocelots, tiger cats, pumas and jaguars can be found. Much of La Amistad International Park, especially from Costa Rica, has not been explored. The weather is suitable for visiting throughout the year.
