Nepal is located in South Asia.

Almost the entire area of the country is covered with high mountain ridges – part of the Central Himalayas. Here is the highest point on Earth – Mount Everest (8,863 m). Eight of the highest peaks in the world – over 8,000 m, are also located in the territory of Nepal. To the South in the foot of the Himalayas and on the border with India it has a small part of the Ganges Valley. It is covered with thick wet forests (jungles) with precious tree species – teak, bamboo, camphor tree, palms, etc. Tigers, leopards and other animals can be seen here.
The population of Nepal comprises 17 peoples, but the Sherpa are the most famous. They are renowned as the best guides and porters, and profess Lamaism. The Sherpa moved here from Eastern Tibet in 16th c.

With its mountains, historical and religious landmarks Nepal attracts about 500,000 tourists every year.

Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, is located in the largest mountain valley, at 1,430 m above sea level. Its vicinity is rich in big architectural and sculpture complexes of Buddhist temples (3rd c AD), Hindu temples (12th c.), etc.

The population of Nepal is occupied in agriculture. They grow rice, wheat, sugar cane, potatoes, tobacco, and breed yaks, dzo (a crossbreed between yak and cow), goats, buffaloes and sheep.
