Cayman Islands are made up of three islands - Little and Big Cayman and Cayman Brac. They are located in the Caribbean Sea and are the UK's self-governing territory.

The capital of Cayman Islands is Georgetown and is located on the island of Big Cayman. Georgetown lives in more than half the island's population. The Cayman Islands and the capital Georgetown are a major global financial center. Here are offices over 500 banks, so they are also called "Switzerland of the Caribbean".

Another developed sector of the Cayman Islands is tourism. The islands are low with beautiful sandy beaches. Cayman Brac has numerous water caves that attract tourists, divers and cavers. Cayman Islands are surrounded by beautiful coral reefs inhabited by a variety of animals. On the islands grow coconut palms, mahogany trees, bananas, mango and others.

In the past the islands have been known as Los Tortugas because of the many turtles. Nowadays there are special tortoise farms in the Cayman Islands. Their meat is used for food, and shells and skin are made souvenirs for the numerous tourists.

The Cayman Islands were discovered by Columbus in 1503 and by 1670 were the domain of Spain. Spain then relinquished them to the United Kingdom.
