Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest
Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is a small group of conifers, one of which is the oldest living organism on the planet. This area, located in California, is part of the Inyo National Park - the White Mountains.
This mountain range of the White Mountains is made of quartzite sandstone and granite with little dolomite rocks. The climate here is cold, dry and windy, and the soil is poor in nutrients. That is why the trees themselves are distorted, with a dead wood zone and narrow strips of living bark. Here is the Methuselah tree, which is 4700 years old and continues to grow.
