The Devil's Tower is a monolithic stone formation rising over a wooded area near the River Fursh in the deserted lands of Northeast Wyoming. The hill on which the tower rises is 182 m high and the formation itself is 263 m. The Tower is a striped volcanic rock with a flat top.
The Devil's Tower is a sacred place for several Indian tribes, including the Sioux Lakota. Every June, visitors are asked not to climb the rock to allow the Indians to perform their rituals.
In 1978 Steven Spielberg also shot "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".
