Maleme is located on the island of Crete and is a typical village with an ancient history, built in the typical style of Greek architecture. Maleme is located 16 km west of Crete Chania and offers many nice beaches, restaurants, bars, as well as opportunities for water and land sports. It is interesting to know that one of the largest airborne landings in world military history took place in Maleme. This happened in May 1941, when 10,000 German paratroopers were launched, who, despite resistance, managed to capture the airport.
