Euboea, Greece
Euboea (Εύβοια) is the largest of the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea and the second largest Greek island after Crete. Its area is 3681 square kilometers, length 158 km and width is not more than 40 km. Euboea offers a mild climate and very clean sea. The island is separated from the mainland by the Euripos Strait, 40 meters wide. Phenomenal is the fact that every 6 hours the flow in the strait changes direction. A bridge over the strait connects Euboea with Central Greece. The capital of Euboea is Chalkida, and the population is about 218,000 inhabitants. The island of Euboea and the smaller island of Skyros form a separate nom. The island of Euboea is part of ancient Greek mythology.
