The Abruzzo National Park is the best and well maintained park in Italy. It occupies an area of 410 sq.km. Until 1917, Abruzzo National Park was a hunting reserve and was subsequently given the status of a protected area. In the middle of the Abruzzo National Park lies the Sangro Valley, which divides it into two equal parts. In the Sangro valley are the largest villages: Pescaceroli; Bareia; Villetta Bareia, among others. In the village of Pescaceroli is the main museum of the Abruzzo National Park and a tourist office where information about tourist routes is given.

Spring is the best time to enjoy the flora in Abruzzo National Park. There are over 1,200 species of flowers and trees and 267 species of fungi. Bird lovers can see over 300 species of birds including Imperial Eagles. The biggest attraction in Abruzzo National Park are the bears and wolves.

There were a lot of bears here until the 16th century, but in 1915 they became extinct. Today there are 80-100 bears in Abruzzo National Park. Of the wolves in the wild there are about 30. In the village of Civitella Alfedena there is a Museum of the Apennine Wolf, which has several wolves.
