
Arezzo, Italy

The town of Arezzo is located in Italy, Tuscany region. The origins of the settlement date back to Etruscan times. The town was conquered by the Romans in 311 BC. Arezzo retained its importance during and after the fall of the Western Roman Empire because of its proximity to the important Via Cassia road. From 1098 to 1384, the city was ruled by a bishop, and was then annexed to the Florentine Republic.
The greatest landmark in Arezzo is the cycle of frescoes by Piero della Francesca, the Legend of the True Cross, which are in the church of St Francis. Other famous landmarks of Arezzo are: the Palace with the Loggia; the Palace of the Secular Fraternity; the Parco Pasquale del Prato with the Cathedral and the Medici Castle.
