Cortina d’Ampezzo was born back in 1956 after the Italian city was honored to host the Olympic Games. This is just the beginning of its glorious growth on the tourist map. An interesting fact about the resort is that the production "The Climber" with Sylvester Stallone was filmed in his area. The Dolomites are giving up some of their land to host the winter resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo. Thanks to its geographical location, the resort offers altitude of its slopes from 2930 m to 1050 m and a maximum displacement of 1880 m. The total length of the slopes for skiing is 150 km, and those for cross-country skiing - 50 km. Cortina d’Ampezzo is the most enticing for intermediate and expert, but beginners are not neglected either. The resort has the largest variety of slopes in the entire Dolomites, as they are divided into three zones and there are 42 slopes for beginners, 19 for intermediate and 8 for experts.
The mountain slopes in the Cortina d’Ampezzo area are a big challenge for freestyle skiers. A system of 37 lifts is at the service of every tourist who crosses the boundaries of the ski resort. Cortina d’Ampezzo is becoming a hospitable landlord not only for skiers in winter. There is also a place for snowboarders in his home. There is a separate park for them, but the challenges of the uncultivated terrains and rocks around the city are not missing.
Apart from skiing and snowboarding, the variety of stays in Cortina d’Ampezzo is guaranteed by additional opportunities for entertainment and sports. Winter challenges include snowmobiling, sledding, skating, curling and ice climbing.
Antique shops and galleries are among the pearls of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The city is attractive for celebrities, so do not be surprised if you meet someone on the streets or while relaxing in one of the cozy bars, piano bars or clubs in the resort town. The ice rink should not be missed as an experience, especially when it has become a disco in the evening.
