The Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands are a very beautiful volcanic archipelago 965 km west of Ecuador. Iguanas and giant Galapagos tortoises can be seen on the islands, as well as wingless cormorants, Galapagos flamingos, penguins and the famous Darwin seagulls. The Galapagos Islands have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The nearest town is Gayakil, 1000 km away, and can be visited all year round.
